Glorious Afternoon My Precious Fellow Traveler!
Well, we have achieved a huge milestone.
Monday night – after, once again, working all weekend (please forgive me, Lord) – I assembled all the pieces and created the first, fully intact Rough Cut of the movie – End Credits and all. I can now report the movie’s final Running Time is 1 hour 23 minutes. Perfect!
I can also report that it all holds together beautifully. I’m beside myself with excitement over the final result.
Now, when I say, “final result,” the movie still needs to be:
Up-rezed – Its resolution must be upgraded to theatrical standards.
Interpolated – Its frame rate must be upgraded to make certain all the movements in the film (e.g., all the zooms) are silky smooth.
Color corrected – Its color palette must be consistent.
Audio sweetened – The relative levels of narration, music, and sound effects all must be balanced perfectly.
That said, it’s a truly momentous occasion when one sees for the very first time a movie’s story arc not in pieces, but in its entirety. That’s what happened this week.
Tomorrow my fellow Exceleration Studio co-founders and I are gathering in Dallas to discuss next steps.
Finally, this: Please pray for us to find …
The right person to help us create a dynamite Trailer for the movie.
The right investor(s) to help us finish and market the movie.
The right distributors to show the movie theatrically.
The right consultants to help us create a robust and effective launch strategy.
We’re still holding out hope of being able to release the movie this fall, but that gives us a very short runway. In any case we’re praying, as always, for God’s will to be done. To him alone be the glory!
Now to the main topic …
In this letter I want to share with you brief descriptions of what I call my secular “Laws of Life.” The most important laws, of course, are rooted in the Bible.
I began formulating them when I was at ABC News & my producers loved them. There are quite a number of them, but for now I plan to share just three of them with you - beginning with this first one.
The laws are based completely on experience: The more we live, the more we learn – usually, unfortunately, the hard way. I hope you find them useful, my fellow traveler, as you yourself continue living and learning.
Law #1: Life isn’t fair. Get over it.
Starting when we’re very young, we discover that life at every level isn’t fair.
At the topmost level, we wonder, “Hey, why are some kids born into wealthy families while others are born into trailer-park families on the wrong side of the tracks?” or “Hey, why do some people have long, happy, healthy lives while others die young – maybe even before their first birthday?”
At the middle level, we wonder: “Hey, why are some laws/rules so stupid and unfair?” or “Hey, why do people judge me on how I look, instead of how I behave and what I believe?”
At the lowest level, we wonder: “Hey, why did they hurt me when I didn’t do anything wrong to them? Or “Why did I get a B when I really deserved an A?”
On and on it goes: There’s no end to the unfairnesses in life.
Because of that sad reality, we all have a huge decision to make: Do we blow up and die on every hill of unfairness? If so, we won’t last long; we’ll quickly die of exhaustion, frustration, and defeat.
I choose to pick my battles wisely – saving myself for injustices that matter greatly & rolling with all the lesser unfairnesses, which are the unavoidable costs of living.
Above all, I rely on my belief that each of us ultimately will be held accountable for what we did and didn’t do in life. Indeed, on Judgement Day, all of life’s unfairnesses will be revealed and punished.
“I also saw other things in this life that were not fair. The fastest runner does not always win the race; the strongest soldier does not always win the battle; wise people don’t always get the food; smart people don’t always get the wealth; educated people don’t always get the praise they deserve. When the time comes, bad things can happen to anyone!” (Ecclesiastes 9:11)
