I too love America. My earliest memories were hearing about my grandfather’s time in the Navy during WW1, my father joining the Navy at age 16 to fight in the Pacific in WW2 along with his brother and two brothers in law. My mom’s step brother was in the Navy. My cousin and brother also. I had a Navy scholarship to attend medical school and ended up with 38 years of active and reserve service retiring as a Navy captain. My time in the Navy allowed me to visit 65 countries and cemented my belief that America is the best country in the world. In 1966 I took a civics class in school. My history teacher taught me about our struggle for independence and the beauty of our Constitution with its protection of our personal freedoms that so many other foreigners can only dream of. I was taught the meaning of e pluribus unum, the “melting pot”, and the history of Ellis Island with the desire foreigners had to come to America to be an American. Sadly too many foreigners now come not to build up but to tear down what has been so carefully built and preserved with the lives of those who fought and died for this country and these freedoms. May God continue to bless and strengthen us.
God bless your grandfather’s life and his service to our great country. My dad was in the infantry in WWII. Served in the South Pacific. Based in Schofield Barracks. Lost his hearing and saw his buddies blown up. Married and had three kids. Worked hard … and NEVER ONCE did I hear him trash talk our great nation. Not once!
