Glorious Wednesday, My Precious Fellow Traveler -

I’m thrilled to report that I’m in the final stages of producing my movie, The Invisible Everywhere: Believing Is Seeing. I hope to finish by the end of the year - early January at the latest. If so, then the movie is likely to be released this spring around early April.

To God alone be the glory!

Amen.

My Mailbag Ministry

My subscribers live in 48 states and 35 countries all over the world! So answering the many questions they ask me every day is time-consuming. Nevertheless, it’s a very important and enjoyable part of my ministry.

Occasionally, starting with today’s post, I will publish a subscriber’s question and my response that I believe will interest and benefit you.

Is God Light - Literally?

This question came to me from a young woman in Russia:

In my search for Jesus, I read your book “Believing is Seeing.” I loved reading it, and I have been feeling the Holy Spirit,. It’s a sensation of tingling and warmth I feel from the crown of my head to my toe tips during prayer, thinking about God.

In your book you say - quoting the Bible - that “God is light.” You then proceed to describe light as photons with the ability to make matter appear and disappear. So technically, God or Light actually created the universe, earth and humans. It seems, therefore, that you interpret the statement “God is light” literally.

My question is this: If God is light, and stars are the source of light, how could God have created the stars? Are there different types of light or is this something similar to Schrödinger’s cat, which I seem to not be able to comprehend.

Grateful for your time!

My Dear Fellow Traveler -

Many years ago, when as an atheist-scientist I grudgingly began reading the Bible, the verse “God is light” caught my eye for many reasons.

“This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.”

1 John 1:5

Reason #1

Even though light is ubiquitous, it’s always been difficult for science to explain. To this day, in fact, light is still a “problem child.” Quantum mechanics offers us intriguing insights into the nature of light, but even so, light remains a deep, deep mystery.

That’s the first reason 1 John 1:5 – which equates God with light - caught my eye: Exactly like light, God is a deep, deep mystery.

Reason #2

Two of the greatest discoveries in science are: (A) energy is conserved; it cannot be created or destroyed, and (B) energy, like a chameleon, can change its appearance; for example, through the agency of a space heater, electrical energy can morph into thermal energy.

Based on these discoveries and Old Testament scripture, it seems reasonable to say that God the Father is a timeless, spaceless being of pure and perfect spiritual energy.

That’s the second reason 1 John 1:5 caught my eye. Exactly like light - which is a form of energy - God the Father is indestructible and has the remarkable ability to morph into other forms of energy. Within each Christian, for example, God the Father exists as the Holy Spirit, a form of spiritual energy you so beautifully describe as giving you a warm, tingling sensation.

Reason #3
