The Thermodynamics of God's Creation
Life Is Hard, Death Is Easy
Glorious Day My Precious Fellow Traveler -
I’m hoping to resume a regular, weekly schedule of postings once I’m able to crawl out from under the brutal demands of making my movie, The Invisible Everywhere: Believing Is Seeing.
When that happens, I hope to publish a new post every Wednesday. Also, I’m planning to resume my podcast early next year. We’re already lining up some fascinating guests. You won’t want to miss any of the action.
For now, my wife Laurel and I send you and yours our warmest wishes for a beautiful Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend - even if, perchance, you don’t live in the United States. 😊
The Thermodynamics of God’s Creation
Of all the laws of the nature - absolute truths I’ve devoted my life to studying and understanding - the four laws of thermodynamics strike me as the most profound. Why? Because they reveal, like no other scientific laws, the innermost workings - the heart and soul - of God’s creation.
Thermodynamics is the branch of physics devoted to studying heat, a familiar yet surprisingly complex phenomenon that managed to stump scientists for many centuries. It wasn’t until the 19th century that we finally realized heat is a kind of energy - “thermal energy” - which, like every other kind of energy, can be harnessed to do work. That single insight is what powered the steam engines of the Industrial Revolution.
Zeroth Law
The first of the four laws of thermodynamics is called the Zeroth Law because in the history of science it was an afterthought. It was formally stated in the 1930s, many decades after the original three laws of thermodynamics had been chiseled in stone.
Why, then, didn’t scientists simply call it the Fourth Law? Because the Zeroth Law expresses a truism so fundamental that, like an axiom in geometry, it deserves first place.
